Thanks to PCIe connectivtity, the new HyperStar2 9100 family offers a yet unseen level of performance from a RAID system.
Speed is normally a given when you consider a United Digital storage solution, but in this case the performance is so extraordinary that it is worth writing home about. By taking full advantage of the natural bandwidth of the PCIe bus found in most Mac’s and PC’s, the 9100 HyperStars are delivering a sustained transfer speed that satisfies even the most demanding HD video streaming applications. The speed is achieved by having PCIe connectivity from point to point, which means that the RAID controller is connected via a PCIe bridge straight into the heart of the host. Normally, connectivity between a host and the storage system is achieved via a Fibre Channel or a SCSI host bus adapter, which prevents the storage system and the host from delivering the speeds that they are capable of. By removing this bottleneck United Digital has created its most powerful storage solution to date.
